Wishing you all a very good morning!
We all are confused when it comes to picking up a suitable foundation very often, aren't we? The markets are loaded with tons of products of different brands and because of the no. of options kept before us we get more confused! Which foundation is right for me?which shade? how much coverage needed? n blah blah blah..
Here are a few things you can consider before purchasing a foundation.
1) KNOW YOUR SKIN
What is your skin type? Oily , dry or combination. You should pick a foundation depending on your skin type.
Dry skin : Oil/water based foundations help in keeping the skin hydrated. Cream based foundation gives a good medium to full coverage.
Oily skin :Mineral based foundations, press powders & Oil free foundations that give a matte finish ..
Combination skin : All types of foundations can work on combination skin from press powders to oil based foundation.
Sensitive skin : Mineral based makeup work best and SPF foundation during the day for these skin types.
2)YOUR SKIN TONE
Did you know your veins decide your undertone ?
Check your wrist .
Green veins-warm undertone
go for foundations that have yellow undertones. (Yellow undertones can be used for all skin tones.)
Blue veins-cool undertone
Go for foundations that have pink undertones.
3)COVERAGE
Decide on the coverage you want.
Light : Sheer foundations gives a very light effect . Can be used on daily basis.
Medium to full :Hides all the flaws . For Parties and weddings also Used for bridal makeup.
4) RIGHT SHADE
Its really important to choose the right shade depending on wether you are dusky, wheatish or fair to get a perfect make up look.
a)Never do a patch test on hand ,wrist or anywhere. Always test the shade of a product on your forehead or the jawline.. Know that the sales person has zero knowledge about makeup when he asks to check the product on your wrist.
b)Test the shade in broad daylight or near the window if possible because the lights in the store may not show true shades.
c)Apply 2-3 different shades and choose the one that matches your skin tone the best.
d) Make sure it blends easily in your skin and check the shelf life of the product/expiry date etc..
e)SPF foundations
Please note
If you are getting married or going to shoot indoors where flash will be used make sure you wear a foundation without SPF otherwise it will spoil your pictures as spf reflects the flash back.
If you go for a outdoor function or a wedding during the day time and you can wear SPF foundations.
