Good morning friends.
Its almost the end of October and winter is around the corner. Along with the chilled and pleasant weather this season has much more to offer like dry , flaky and cracking of skin. Skin becomes more sensitive when the temperature begins to drop.
Effects of cold weather on our body.
- Inefficient blood circulation.
- Less oxygen reaches our cells
- Dry & chapped skin due to cold winds
- Tend to drink less water which further causes dehydration
Tips for skin care during winter season :
1) Use a good moisturizer
Moisturizer your skin more often than you do generally do in summers. Avoid water based moisturizer in winters as they wont last long. keep exfoliating dead skin cells so that the moisturizer can easily be absorbed by your skin. You can go for oil or cram based moisturizers. Apply moisturizer on damp skin to lock the moisture (water) before it goes away. (Note : Not all oils are good for your face as they can clog pores. )
2) Avoid Hot showers
I know having a bath in hot water is amazing during winters and you just don't feel like coming out of the bathroom but let me tell you that hot water will make your skin more dry and sweep away the moisture from your skin. Less than 10 minute shower in lukewarm water is fine.
3)Drink plenty of water.
We tend to drink less water during winters as we don't feel that thirsty but make sure you drink enough water to keep your skin hydrated and maintain its glow. Herbal teas will also help hydrate your body.
4)Don't lick your lips
Licking your already chapped and cracked lips will make them more dry. Keep applying lip balm at regular intervals.
5)Be careful about skin products.
Avoid alcohol based products because the will make your skin dry . Use a milder face wash & thick moisturizer. Use a milk or a cream based cleanser.
6)Don't skip sunscreens
Sunscreen lotions are not only for summer ./even during winters the UV rays can strip off the moisture . Use a good sunscreen before heading outdoors.
7)Hair care
To avoid dry hair don't wash your hair everyday unless its necessary . Twice a week is okay during winters. Use a good anti dandruff shampoo at least once a week . If you have too much of dandruff mix lemon into your hair oil and apply an hour before hair wash.
8)Deep conditioning.
Just like your skin need a moisturizer your hair needs it too. Go for a deep conditioning treatment at least once a week . If not at the salon you can also do It at home . It will help in moisturizing your dry hair.
9) Proper nutrition.
Indulge in healthy food including good amount of fats butter, ghee, almonds and other nuts as your body needs more fats and oils to keep your skin glowing. Fats are known to keep your body warm.
Bonus tip.
Avoid tight fitting clothes and heaters as much as possible.
